SmartestEnergy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Marubeni, is a leading consolidator of electricity from independent generators in the UK. We are licensed as an electricity supplier, a natural gas supplier and shipper. The company began trading in October 2001, to enable smaller embedded generators of primarily renewable energy to gain access to the deregulated energy market in the UK.
SmartestEnergy provides a range of Power Purchase and Energy Trading products and services to independent generators and other sector participants, working closely with our customers to ensure that every contract suits the precise requirements of the individual generator or counter-party. These contracts typically include the green certificates (ROCs, LECs and REGOs) obtained by the generator, as well as other benefits.
For example, we are responsible for selling all of British Sugar’s 125MW export capacity into the market. British Sugar has its own CHP plants on each of its 4 processing sites. By monitoring site outputs in real time, we can compensate for any under-producing plant.
From September 2008, SmartestEnergy is offering UK business customers a range of fixed rate electricity supply contracts utilising electricity generated from Renewable and Good Quality CHP schemes.
