Tidal Power Generator
In 2007 Marubeni Europe became a Foundation Partner of the low carbon business accelerator LIFE-IC, in the UK. LIFE-IC supports early stage companies developing new technologies and enables them to raise funds and build their business towards eventual stock market listing.
This partnership gives Marubeni access to a range of investment opportunities in innovative clean and renewable energy technologies.
One such example is the Pulse tidal power generator, where Marubeni Europe has taken a stake in the first round of the company's equity. Pulse is developing a tidal power technology for use in shallow water which will have the benefit of lowering installation costs and being generally located closer to load centres than alternative tidal technologies. A prototype 100kW project is planned for the Humber estuary, with the power generated being sold to an industrial customer.
